Music Ministry

Praise the Lord! Sing a new song . . Let them praise His name with dancing, making melody to Him with timbrel and with the lyre!
Psalm 149: 1-3
God has given His people the glorious gift of music. Whether He has given us voices to sing, instruments to play, or ears to hear, it is our duty and our pleasure to use our God-given talents for His praise. Each of us, both in our own way and in community, can witness to the Gospel through the power of our music ministry.
The music ministry at Pines Presbyterian Church includes vocal and instrumental choirs for all ages - children, youth, and adults.
We are conscious of the fact that for centuries Christianity has been a singing faith, and our music at Pines expresses that faith and follows the Biblical command to "come into His presence with singing." (Psalm 100:2) Within our choirs and ensembles we desire to:
- sing the praises of our wonderful Lord.
- worship through song as we lead the congregation in singing.
- provide choral training in vocal development and in musical literacy, sensitivity, and appreciation.
- present a broad repertoire that expands the choirs' horizons and, at the same time,
- reaches out to different tastes and spiritual needs within the congregation.
- build friendships as we serve together by making music.
- With Psalm 150:6 we say, " Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord."
Our musical groups welcome all musicians, young and old.
The Chancel Choir
Singers from high-school youth to adults are invited to rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 7- 8:40 p.m. and to sing for Sunday-morning services plus special services. The choir sings in four parts (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) and ability to read music is not required but is helpful. The Pines Orchestra joins the choir in presenting a Sunday-morning cantata for Christmas and a service of music on Good Friday, and each year the choir sponsors a multi-generational talent show called Extravaganza!
Members of the Chancel Choir also sing barbershop harmony as the Pine Tones, and the ladies sometimes perform as the Melody Singers.
The Pines Orchestra
Adults and middle- and high-school youth join forces to play monthly on Sunday mornings and for holiday services. Brass, woodwinds, strings, and percussion are invited with rehearsals called as needed for Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings.
The Pines Pealers
Pines' Hand Bell Ensemble welcomes ringers from the sixth grade and up to rehearsals on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. with some ability in reading music desirable but not essential. The group plays monthly for Sunday-morning services and on holidays.
Sunday-Evening Youth Musicians
Middle- and high-school youth are invited to use their talents in leading the singing after the 5:00 suppers on Sunday evenings. Rehearsals are at 4:00 p.m.
The Children's Choir
Children in Grades 1-5 are invited beginning the Sunday after Rally Day to practice for a Christmas Musical in rehearsals each Sunday at 4:45 p.m.
The Cherub Choir
Rehearsals for little ones are held during Sunday School, and they sing occasionally for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service as well as for Christmas and Extravaganza.
